Resurrection Day 2012

Easter was a rush, overlapping with the last weekend of term, so busy, busy, busy. Tempted though I was by lovely lamb pieces everywhere, our family dinner bit the dust, since we were hosting a special house church in the evening, after a slew of events: friends for lunch on Good Friday, a student baptism & reception in Lake Geneva on Saturday, following a student brunch in our apartment.

The boys brought home Easter baskets from school; the mythology favor mother hens and baby chicks for the basket; bunnies & eggs for chocolate.
No egg hunt this year, although we had an egg tree ornamented with eggs and Lenten devotional art.

Easter is the most important church day of the year, whose symbolism somehow seems more obviously compromised by paganism than Christmas, whose romantic, commercial extensions still revolve around the theology of gift.
Jack crowned his red panda with the baby chicks, making, in his words, "a family."

These metallic ones turned out nicely.
Hilary's baptism was the weekend's event, as over half the house turned out for the service, followed by songs and back home for Italian dove cake ("colomba"), perfect for both Easter and baptism.

We were at All Saints for their communion service, filled with beautiful music. Christian, who directed the Lessons & Carols service and originally one of 21 boy singers in Windsor Castle's choir - performing for the Queen - is a powerful organist. I note that All Saints' music, now dominated by praise choruses, reverts to hymns for Easter and Christmas; fluent in liturgical vocabulary "the contemporary" cannot voice.

Happy belated Easter greetings from us!
Yeah for liturgy and hymns! You are right that praise and worship songs can't come close to the deep meaning and theology of hymns.
I am sure Lausanne is budding with beauty everywhere!
