Sunday
We attended another English-speaking church Sunday - Scots Kirk, established in early 1800s. Given the lengthy history of UK folks in Switzerland (individuals traveled through the country en route to Italy + Nestle) there are a number of English social conventions here, including tearooms and churches. The congregations are dwindling in number and are generally lonely gatherings of the elderly, as the younger Brits are not churchgoers, but still retain a pretty solid liturgy, which we appreciated, even if the message was a bit watered down and was more of a celebration of the poetry of William Blake. Next week is a BBQ though, so we may be back.
We made our way to another charming lakeside village, Pully, which has an amazing combo of restaurant, pool, park, and miniature train that Michael and Jack loved riding over and over again. The Swiss versions of these mini-trains focus on exactness and authentic reproduction to scale, where the American ones we've visited have been bigger rides. One of the trains actually was powered by coal!
